Electricity is one of the most powerful and potentially hazardous forces known to man. Alameda Municipal Power employees work with this powerful force on a daily basis.

We have an aggressive safety program that is designed to reinforce employee and customer awareness of hazards and essential safety procedures.

American Public Power Association has twice presented Alameda Municipal Power with a Utility Safety Award in recognition of our exemplary safety record.

Alameda Municipal Power is known as "The Greenest Little Utility in America!"

Our power portfolio, typically over 80% clean and renewable, is a major reason that the City of Alameda is the lowest greenhouse-gas-emitting community in Alameda County and one of the lowest in the State.

Our focus on environmental stewardship began over 3 decades ago, well before the term "green" was in vogue.  We joined with other Northern California municipal utilities in developing geothermal and hydroelectric resources in the early 1980s. Our investment in these facilities reaps renewable benefits and helps us maintain rate stability.

We've recently added landfill gas, wind, and solar generation to increase our renewable portfolio.

The AMP distribution system receives electricity from beyond our community's borders and delivers it to you.

Alameda is connected to the outside world at two substations in Oakland, one near Jack London Square and the other near the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.  A 115-kilovolt loop connects these two points with two substations in Alameda, the Jenney Substation in the north side industrial area and the Cartwright Substation at Alameda Point.  This 9-mile loop provides backup for maintenance and in the event of an emergency.
